mouse and mouse (2019-   ) is a surveillance record of artistic intent. In this creative pursuit, I examine an assumed power dynamic—a position I am forced into by way of my employment as a facilities supervisor. By subverting the implied authority I assume as a caretaker of the property,

I transform my role from the cat in the proverbial Cat and Mouse game into that of mouse exploring the extent to which I may assist other mice.

I track non-destructive physical evidence of artistic intervention in a semi-public space through security imaging technologies to determine the instigators with the initial intent of invoking the implied power of authority to end the interventions. In the course of investigation and documentation of these interventions questions arise as to the legitimacy or even necessity of any invocation of authority in response to what amounts to a work of public art. The surveillant, in choosing not to act in any way to discourage the continuation of these interventions, assumes the role of anonymous collaborator and of audience.
